New York had a law that prohibited adults from generally carrying a firearm (including a concealed handgun) upon their person in New York without a state-issued license. These licenses were only issued upon proof of “good moral character” and “proper cause.” This is frequently referred to as a “may issue” licensing scheme, which is not based on objective criteria.

Gun Owners Liability Insurance: What Is It, And How Does It Help Me?

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Just as a bullet leaving the muzzle of a gun creates recoil, making the personal decision to be your own defender brings new challenges to consider. Gun owners liability insurance provides coverage for damages resulting from negligence with a firearm. This means that such a policy would exclusively cover damages from unintentional harm. While this may be a worthwhile investment against such an incident, it doesn’t cover acts of lawful self-defense, which is what many people are looking for when they think of gun insurance.

Colorado’s New “Vote Without Fear Act”

2022-05-27T17:01:45-05:00May 27th, 2022|Tags: , |

On March 30, 2022, Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed into law the “Vote Without Fear Act,” which generally makes it unlawful to openly carry a firearm at or near any polling location in Colorado during an election. Proponents argue this new law is intended to prevent voter intimidation at the polls and other locations where voters cast a ballot. Opponents argue the new law essentially requires law-abiding gun owners to forgo one constitutional right (the Second Amendment) in order to exercise another (the right to vote).

As gun owners know best, gun laws are complex and one false move could put you on the other side of the law. Plus, gun laws are different in every state, which makes things confusing for law-abiding individuals across the nation. For example, the use of force in one state may constitute “deadly force” in another state, possibly creating a sticky situation if you’re traveling between states.

John Moses Browning: America’s Gunmaker

The hand of John Moses Browning is evident across firearms — everything from semi-automatic pistols, to shotguns, Winchester lever-action rifles, even military weapons such as the “Ma Deuce” .50 caliber machine gun that Browning designed — from the late 19th century into today. Browning’s designs took firearms from the single-shot rolling block rifle to the machine gun, and influenced almost all types of firearm design, particularly autoloading ammunition. His inventions included significant improvements to single-shot, lever-action, and pump-action rifles and shotguns, and he developed some of the first reliable autoloading pistols by inventing a telescoping bolt and integrating this bolt and barrel shroud into a slide.
