Can you get into trouble for using someone else’s gun for self-defense? Many people who move to Florida from other states are surprised to learn there is no gun registry in Florida. They often ask what will happen to them if they use a spouse’s firearm to protect themselves or their family.
Although the law may differ in other states, in Florida, it does not matter who the owner of the firearm is. If you have a right to use deadly force to defend yourself, you may do so with anyone’s firearm. Whether it is your spouse’s, friend’s, a gun dropped during a struggle belonging to a stranger, or even the assailant—it makes no difference in Florida.
For any other self-defense or firearm related questions, please call U.S. LawShield and ask to speak with your Independent Program Attorney. We look forward to speaking with you.
As a Florida member this is welcomed news. As I have a gun for home protection for when I’m traveling that my wife may use against intrusion. Thank you.
This is great to know. How do I find out about other states that I visit?
