The following is a video transcript.
South Carolina law allows for the carrying of long guns such as shotguns and rifles openly or concealed in a vehicle. As a general rule, a long gun may be carried loaded unless you are traveling to a state park, recreational area, or a wildlife area during hunting season. Then it must be unloaded. Under both state and federal law, as long as the long gun is legal and is not a prohibited weapon such as a sawed-off shotgun, or sawed-off rifle, or a machinegun, open or concealed transportation of rifles or shotguns by persons who lawfully possess them is legal.
Carrying of long guns is not difficult in South Carolina and the laws are friendly to long gun owners who may enjoy hunting, sports shooting, or target shooting. If you have any questions regarding carrying a long gun in South Carolina or any other firearm-related question, please call U.S. LawShield and ask to speak to your Independent Program Attorney.
This doesn’t refer to open carry of AR-15’s slung to the chest or behind a person.
I own many long guns. AR’s, Mini’s, all considered by the left wing media and liberals as “assault weapons.” Unless going to a rifle range or simply carrying from my vehicle to my house, etc…. we really don’t need to give the left a reason to make us patriotic 2nd amendment enthusiasts look like a bunch of idiotic lunatics by carrying ANY long arm into stores or just walking down the street with such fire power hanging on your chest or back or wherever. IT IS LEGAL, I GET THAT BUT……it’s really silly to do so and it just gives the impression that someone is just trying to look tough. It’s stupid! Just my take on the open carrying of long guns.
So a shotgun on a rack like the police cruisers have is totally cool?
It is legal, but why would you? I am not advertising ( come steal me). My rifle can just as well be loaded in a case across the back seat. and the case protects the rifle.
As a veteran & growing up with an avid hunter Father I’m very familiar with weapons. While never personally owning a weapon my son and I have discussed it’s time to take lessons and by rifles for home protection. Reason being increase in home invasions, violence, illegal immigration & sensible home protection. Would like to know who around Florence, South Carolina to get gun safety instructions from & best semiautomatic rifles to purchase for this purpose? While I don’t own a weapon My father was an avid hunter plus I’m a veteran so I won’t be starting from scratch. Would appreciate suggestions.
With all of the present personal violence & influx of illegal immigrants I’ve discussed the idea that it’s time for he & I to take lessons and purchase a weapon easy to use for home protection. Never having owned a firearm
